How to Check Car Oil

Auto Mechanic Checking Oil

If you want to learn how to check car oil, first, you need to know what car oil does for your Mitsubishi. Car oil is essential to keep all your car parts working correctly. Making sure that your car oil is at its proper levels is an integral part of car maintenance as it supports the other parts of your Mitsubishi. Stay safe on the streets of New Rochelle by keeping up with car maintenance with the help of our service tips and tricks

Learn How to Check the Oil Level in Your Car

Most new Mitsubishi operate on electronic motor monitors, so you should check your owner’s manual to see which type of oil system your vehicle uses. If you find that your car uses a manual dipstick, then follow the instructions below to check your car oil levels:

  1. Park your Mitsubishi on level ground and turn your engine off. Wait until your engine is cool before proceeding to the next step.
  2. Open the hood of your car and find the dipstick.
  3. Pull the dipstick out and wipe off the oil.
  4. Re-insert the dipstick back into your car and then pull it out again to see your car oil level.

Dipsticks have the same way of measuring car oil. If the top of the oil streak is between two marks or within the crosshatched area, your car oil is at the correct level. If the top of your oil streak is lower than that, you need to add more oil. Make sure to buy the correct oil grade for your make and model as using the incorrect type of oil will hinder your vehicle’s performance. You can find what type of car oil your vehicle uses in your owner’s manual.

Why Should You Check Oil Level in Your Mitsubishi?

Now that you know to check the oil level in your car, let’s discuss why it’s so important. Checking your motor oil once a month is essential to ensuring your vehicle is in good working order. Check for oil leaks beneath your vehicle as that can be a sign that your vehicle needs to be taken in for service. A hot or steaming hood can also be an indication of bigger mechanical issues. You should have your oil changed at least twice a year, or when it turns dark brown or black in color. When it’s time to come in for maintenance, schedule an appointment with our service center in Bronx.
