New York City has one of the top 10 best public transit systems in the United States, so you’ll have no problem getting to the Bronx Museum of the Arts – avoiding street traffic all the while. Hop on the subway and take the B or D train to 167th Street, take the Bx1 or Bx2 bus to 165th Street and Grand Concourse, or hop on the Metro North Railroad train and take it all the way to the Hudson Line at the Yankees E. 153rd Street Station.
The Bronx Museum of the Arts is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, as well as Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. Their hours on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday are 11 am – 6 pm, and they’re open from 11 am to 8 pm on Fridays. Curious about admission fees? There are none! The museum is free to visitors of all ages, making it an ideal activity for families and groups of friends. Do keep in mind that children under the age of 12 must have an adult with them to enter, and strollers are not allowed in the galleries.
The Bronx Museum of the Arts wants to ensure all of their visitors have a chance to enjoy the entirety of their contemporary art collection. Every gallery and restroom within the museum are wheelchair accessible, and there are elevators going to each floor if needed. A limited number of wheelchairs are available at the museum’s entrance, free-of-charge and on a first come, first serve basis.
Today, the Bronx Museum of the Arts is home to a permanent collection of over 2,000 contemporary artworks – you might have trouble seeing it all in one day! With that said, you should be sure to carve out some time to check out the temporary exhibits from visiting artists, too.
